As a test, I started it up, and it utilized up to 12% of the CPU for a few seconds before leveling off to 0%. As for tasks, it checks for product updates for CONNECT Edition products, including itself. It also periodically looks for project notifications if users are utilizing CONNECTED Projects. Finally, it supports file synchronization capabilities with ProjectWise.
I am already going to disable it from starting up on everyone's computers but how can i have it automatically exit after they close a Bentley connect app?
I am not aware of an auto-close option since the CONNECTION Client provides notifications that can be presented to users regardless of whether a Bentley product is currently in use. Is there a way to set preferences for all our users? I see in the readme that people can do it individually but it is impractical to make all the users spend the time to do so. Is the preference information stored in the registry so we can set that for all users? Thanks

Sadly all they have is the company line. I have know Glenn for years and he really wants to help but I am sure that Bentley is telling him to shut up and follow the company line. It is very sad as Bentley used to be customer centric, now we have to hire a third party support company because our SELECT fees no longer pay for timely support. The real benefits are for Bentley. They want to push support and administration off on users where MVARs used to do the work. They set unrealistic rules and take away your ability to use software you bought and paid for and continued to pay SELECT fees on if you make a single mistake on the unclear manner is which this initiative was forced on their users.

I am not aware of any global preferences. However, the CONNECTION Client preferences are stored in a SQLite database in the user profile. The following forum post shows how to modify the settings in a programmatic fashion which can be executed as a script.

Can we modify one of the MySelect.db files and push it to everyone or do it hundreds of times?

I've had in the last couple of weeks two Bentley staff contact me by email asking about hardware on our network and getting registered so that we don't have licences deactivated. Shame they didn't check their facts first. Three of the pc's are used by users who have registered and the other one is not on our network. I thought that it was users that had to register so why am I being chased re hardware?

Yes, although if you use one as a template, I recommend deleting the key named KEY_UserID in the Settings table and all entries in the Tokens table so that the template does not contain any references to a specific Bentley user account. There is one side effect I saw during testing. By starting the CONNECTION Client for the first time with a template DB, the product is not automatically added to the Startup group. This is recommended and can be manually added to a registry key with the following command: reg add HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run /v MySELECT.exe /d "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Bentley Shared\CONNECTION Client\Bentley.Connect.Client.exe" /f

This whole process is very confusing. We thought we had it with all our users signed in but now it appears they are looking at hardware names too? Is there anyone who can explain the difference between user IDs and machine names and what to do about it? If a user logs into another machine, do we get deactivated because they weren't registered on that machine? Or is this a ticket to file? Glenn?

Glenn, can you explain this better? " In regards to the program, once the CONNECTION Client is installed, the user for each machine needs to sign in. If they do not sign in the process is not completed ." What if we have 2 users for a machine, do both have to log in?

Hi, Is there a fee associated to the use of the ProjectWise Projects area of the Bentley Cloud services portal? Thanks, Ted

So we have Connection Client installed but still when picking communities.bentley or connect.bentley, we still have to log in. So the Connection Client really has nothing to do with Bentley support or discussions but only is a way to track license usage?

Are you accessing connect.bentley.com from the CONNECTION Client by either clicking the CONNECTION Center button or choosing CONNECTION Center from the contextual menu? If so, it should open in a web browser with you signed in. While in the same web session, open Bentley Communities (communities.bentley.com). It does not show your screen name initially, but if you click on Sign In, it should do so without prompting for your Bentley login again.

I have a similar question. When I go to the CONNECTION Center, then hit community forums or whatever it says, I could have swore it used to log me in to the community automatically. Now, it is semi-automatic as I have to click the silhouette icon in the upper right corner. It does behave as you described and log me in at that point without me having to type anything. Am I just remembering wrong or did this used to be totally automatic?

If we can't sign in to the CONNECTION client (which I can't), how will we get these updates? Keep checking back here? Why not just keep trying to sign in?

Hi - At the moment this is where we are posting updates for this issue. Some users have email notifications for updates to be sent to them for new posts. In regards to this issue, we are still investigating. You may still experience some level of inability to sign in but as of now users can access the system. We'll continue to publish updates as they become available Thanks, Glenn

Your memory is not misleading you. Our authentication system on Communities was changed in October 2017 to address sign in issues that automatically routed you to the home page instead of remaining on the page where you clicked the Sign In button. The behavior you are seeing is a side effect of this change. Once your screen name is showing on Communities, it will remain so for the remainder of the browser session, even if the tab with Communities is closed and reopened. This behavior is less than ideal and will remain on our backlog.
