Forum Post: Need assistance with Bentley connection client silent

I need some assistance with the BCC silent installation. The instructions are about as clear as concrete. I have sent in a service request but never receieved a response (dont I pay for that?) The instructions say to install the CC. I did on my local machine. Then it says at the command line to enter the commands followed by the 2 or three digit code on the install. What? My install file has a long string of characters that dont match the example. Am I to deploy this on the server? Do I open up a command prompt for the silent install? This is a poorly implemented set of instructions in my opinion. Can someone please assist?

Hello, The command prompt mentioned is the Windows Command Prompt that you open to run command lines https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-open-command-prompt-2618089 . Those instructions are for pushing out the silent install that way. In your case you have already installed it manually so the installation is complete. You can create a deployment image and place it in a shared folder on your network and have your users install that way. Here are instructions on how to create a deployment image: https://communities.bentley.com/communities/other_communities/sign-in_assistance_and_web_services/w/wiki/37164/how-to-create-a-deployment-image

Tamicca, Thank you for the asssitance. Why is this not included in the instructions that I was provided? https://www.bentley.com/en/perspectives-and-viewpoints/topics/campaign/bentley-user-registration?BPID=chaz@wrtoole.com&CEID=CT_EMAILB_OPRDS_SLT_1116&et_cid=3006940&et_rid=44246238&et_cc=&et_lc=English&SKID=CT_EMAILB_OPRDS_SLT_1116

Hi Charles, The wiki was written after the site was up and running so it couldn't be included.

Tamicca, This is an extremely confusing instruction set, at least for me. The instruction guide (PDF) has a completely different set of instructions. Deployment is accomplished by using command prompt commands on the original executable. The deployed file names per your recent unstructions are different. So far I have: BULK REGISTERED the users. The (PDF) instructions next state to use the following command line to deploy the software: blg64100008xxen.exe BeCheckUpdateOption=3 BeCheckUpdateIsEnabled=0 Your instructions reflect installing a deployment package. I am completely confused how to accomplish this across the network.

I spoke with Charles and recommended that his users run the installation manually

Hello Brian, What Bentley application are you using, and what version? This will help us direct your question to the appropriate product community forum.

I called Bentley Licensing and found out a dirty little secret they're not telling anyone. I was told they look at Authenticated vs. Non-authenticated machines to determine compliance. This is NOT what they stated in their material calling for "registered users" and a COMPLETELY SEPARATE REQUIREMENT! I have all of our users registered and they all show up as having signed in but because we have some devices that are considered "non-authenticated" we are still at risk of being shut down! To check if your company is at risk you need to go to selectserver.bentley.com, then "Reports">"Inventory Reports">"Client Authentication By Site" click on "Run Report". This will show you if you have any "non-authenticated" machines. God help you if you do! Rant over. ED

How does one go about deleting a "Non-authenticated Machine" from the license server if it's not physically accessible?

Hi, If you private message me your Ultimate ID (or the SR number for the call you referenced) I will look into this for you, but using the SELECTserver report you mention above is not what you should be reviewing. The report you want to use is the CONNECTED User Report: https://communities.bentley.com/communities/other_communities/sign-in_assistance_and_web_services/w/wiki/36523/connected-users-report This report is not real-time as the data is sent via SELECTserver, so if you believe you have completed registering your users continue to check back at the report. In regards to the program, once the CONNECTION Client is installed, the user for each machine needs to sign in. If they do not sign in the process is not completed. Additionally, the 'Last login' date in User Management displays the last time a user signed in to any Bentley site or Service (not specifically the CC) so do not use that interface to verify if they completed this process. Thanks, Glenn

So why would non-authenticated" machines be a problem when all we have to do is register users. Bentley - could you respond to this please.
